What we are talking about

Series Videos

We all have a tendency to form opinions about other people. Sometimes our opinions are based on things that we think we know about them. Other times we base our opinions on something we’ve experienced with them. And sometimes, our opinions are just completely and totally not true! For the next few weeks, we’re going to talk about what it looks like to see others as more than our assumptions and opinions.

Bottom Line:

Choose words that help others, not words that hurt others.

Discussion Questions:

1. In your own words, how would you define gossip.
2. On a scale of 1 to 10, how often do you hear gossip? (1 being never and 10 being all the time)
3. What’s one example of something a middle schooler might gossip about?
4. Why do you think people gossip or talk bad about people behind their backs?
5. Fill in the blank: When someone gossips about me, I feel ________________.
6. When it comes to gossip, do you think most middle schoolers believe they have a choice to participate or not? Why?
7. If you’ve said something hurtful in the past, what’s one step you can take to make it right going forward?
8. How do you think your middle school might be different if people only spoke helpful words rather than hurtful words?

Small Groups

The ultimate goal of what we do in middle school is to get students into a small group led by adults to help give your student another trusted adult voice in their life. An adult that is going say the same things that you are saying about faith. We feel this is the best avenue for students to take steps to love God, love people, and serve the world.
